Empathy

Why Prosthetics?

During my empathy process, I have made connections with Mid Star Labs and will be starting an internship with them. I have also done research on prosthetics and problems that amputees are having to deal with.

I have always been interested in biomedical engineering, but prosthetics is something that has caught my eye here recently. Especially athletic-style prosthetics. As an athlete, I understand what an athlete needs to go full out. I want to be able to help amputee athletes be able to participate in any sports that they would like to compete in.

A few years ago, I got the chance to meet and talk to an amputee that was in the hospital at the same time my dad was. She was so nice but had to pay so much for her prosthetic and was in the hospital for months just to get one. I would like to reduce the price and improve the functionality for both athletes and non-athletes.
